The SquishSome buying guide

Choosing a squishy by feel

Start with what you want your hands to do: squeeze, stretch, or watch the shape slowly return.

01

How much resistance?

A gentle squeeze or something that pushes back?

02

Do you like to stretch?

Look for pulling and kneading, as well as squeezing.

03

What happens next?

A slow return, a quick reset, or a shape that stays put?

01 / The squeeze

Soft isn’t the whole story

A soft outer surface doesn’t tell you how hard the whole toy is to squeeze. Look for a description of the resistance, and notice whether it changes with the way you press.

For a gentler squeeze, look for an explicit soft-squeeze description. If you enjoy resistance, look for firmer pressure. There’s no measured firmness scale here, so we don’t rank one toy as the softest or firmest.

Changes with your pace

NeeDoh Nice Cube

$25.99 USD · full listing price

The product listing describes the Nice Cube as softer when squeezed slowly and firmer when pressed quickly. It may suit someone who likes varying the pressure, rather than one consistent level of resistance.

Random color: pink, purple or blue. Blue isn’t guaranteed.

02 / The stretch

More of a pull-and-smoosh person?

Choose an example described as stretchy if you like pulling and reshaping as well as squeezing. A photo, a gel-like appearance, or the word “soft” alone can’t establish how it stretches.

Stretch and shape recovery are separate qualities. A toy can return to its shape without being slow-rise.

Soft & stretchy

NeeDoh Groovy Glob

$16.99 USD · full listing price

The product listing describes this 2.5-inch ball as soft and stretchy with a dough-like filling. It returns to its round shape; the merchant doesn’t specify how quickly.

One blue, green, orange, pink or purple ball ships at random; the pictured color is not guaranteed.

03 / The return

Let go. Then what?

Slow-rise means watching the shape gradually recover. No-rebound means the shape stays squished. If you want a quick reset, look for an explicit fast-return description; “returns to shape” on its own doesn’t tell us the speed.

For a slow return

RMS SmushMart Giant Cheese Block

$17.99 USD · full listing price

The product listing describes soft, slow-rise foam that gradually puffs back up after being pressed. A starting point if watching the recovery is part of the appeal.

Approximately 15 × 10 × 10 cm. Check the current listing and care instructions at the shop.

For a shape that stays put

Slushy Squish fruit ball

$9.99 USD · full listing price

The product listing describes a zero-rebound design with granular filling and imitation fruit seeds. Its soft exterior doesn’t establish how much squeeze resistance you’ll feel.

One random fruit-themed ball, not a 12-ball set. The listing includes a CA Prop 65 advisory; review it before buying.

One last check before choosing

Check the size, package contents and whether a color or design is random. If you’re buying for a child, review the merchant’s age guidance, warnings and care instructions. A feel description doesn’t establish age suitability, durability, fragrance absence or allergy safety.
